我感觉不是固定句式吧，就是把以前学的语法稍加改造
比如初中时最基本的A is not so（as） good as B，对两个对象进行比较
这句话应该是A is not so good as B is，A is 和B is是并列，只是后面的is可以省略
同样，it was not so much rational as instinctive应该是
it was not so much rational as it was instinctive，it was重复可以去掉
as …… as …… 应该只要是相同的结构就行，比如都是名词、形容词、副词
much应该算是修饰
（或者使用某种不标准的万能语法：it was not so much rational是对的，主系表结构；加上as instinctive，as是连词，当成是and，再加上一个表语，这样也是对的）
